Similarly, there is increasing evidence that, far from forming the next generation of elected officials, law students and newly minted lawyers are shunning political office due to the perceived high costs and low rewards. At the same time, however, the declining number of lawyers running for office, whether at the local, state, or federal level, may not necessarily mean that lawyers no longer play key roles in the wider apparatuses of political action in the United States.
